To the North is Carrollwood, Northdale, Lutz and Land O’Lakes areas. These areas are directly North of downtown and offer different types of amenities depending on your proximity to downtown. Carrollwood is a rapidly growing unincorporated community located 15 miles northwest of Tampa mostly residential. It was mainly named after Lake Carroll, an actual lake on the eastern end of the community. The place was also formerly known as Lake Carroll until the 1980's. The communities of Carrollwood and Carrollwood Village merged to form Greater Carrollwood. In 2000, the population of Greater Carrollwood was 33,519. Lutz and Land O’Lakes lie just a little more North of Carrollwood and Northdale and have a more rural suburban feel than Carrollwood proper.
